The Struts Pretty Vicious Tour at The Complex in Salt Lake City

August 28, 2024

This past week, The Struts made an electrifying return to Salt Lake City with a stop at the Complex on The Pretty Vicious Tour.  The show left fans in awe of a performance that can only be described as a modern-day rock spectacle.  If you’re unfamiliar with The Struts think of the early days of the British rock invasion with a new modern flair and that’s The Struts.

The face of it all is frontman Luke Spiller, who is a rock star in every sense of the word.  If a chef was to craft the perfect recipe for a rock vocalist, Spiller would be the result – Charismatic, magnetic, and utterly captivating as he struts across the stage.  Backing him is an incredible group of musicians consisting of guitarist Adam Slack, bassist Jed Elliott and drummer Gethin Davies.  Together this quartet delivers one of the best rock shows that fans will ever get to see.

From the opening notes of “Primadonna Like Me,” The Struts had the audience in their thrall. Each member of the band gave everything they had, throwing in incredible guitar and drum solos courtesy of Slack and Davies.  The band also took some time to pull at the emotional side of the audience with heartfelt acoustic songs with Slack and Spiller performing and showcasing their chemistry.

The most memorable moment of the night for most people had to be when Spiller walked out into the middle of the venue, singing into fans phones as he passed and they reached out to touch him.  The connection between the fanbase and Spiller was on full display as fans clamored to get close to him as he made his way through the crowd.

The final two songs of the evening consisted of “One Night Only” and the smash single “Could Have Been Me.”  Through “One Night Only” the venue turned into a big sing along and fans reaching out to the stage with outstretched arms.  It was a scene straight out of an 80’s rock video as fans could be seen crying and letting their emotions go as they sang along.  Then the evening was capped off with “Could Have Been Me” creating an unforgettable memory for everyone in attendance.

If you have the chance to see The Struts live, don’t hesitate.  It’s the closest you’ll get to experiencing a rock show reminiscent of the golden rock shows days.
